If you are reading this you are probably interested in purchasing a classic RWD Escort. The question I often ask my customers is "How many have you been to see so far?” and “How many of those were described as mint and then found to have wet carpets or rear arches welded over rear arches?” This is often after travelling for 2 hours or more to get there! Story sound familiar?!

The beauty of having an Escort Built to Order at Mercury Motorsport Ltd. is that this stress is totally eliminated. Your car will be built to your own specification, so you don’t have to settle for vinyl and sunroof if that's not exactly what you want. It's almost like travelling 30 years back in time and walking into a Ford showroom and ordering your RS the way you want it! You get to choose the colour you want or go all out and choose your own suspension set up, engine, gearbox, axle… the sky is the limit!

As with anything a lot depends on availability i.e. if you want an RS1600 in Sebring Red in its original AVO shell with cloth RS trim and BDA engine then you must appreciate that this is not going to be an overnight process. However, if it's an Mk2 flat front built to Mexico spec then generally there is no problem.

Your Escort can be built up from either a genuine RS or an old grannies Popular Plus shopping trolley! Obviously the supply of donor cars is not endless and as such prices will fluctuate depending on availability. Similar goes for interiors. I would always agree that it would be nice to have black Fishnet Recaro's in immaculate original Beta cloth…. but where do you get them? We can get recovered items providing we have a donor seat, alternatively why not have comfortable bucket seats?

We prefer to build our cars using new parts wherever possible, however if you want to save money and use second hand parts, then we are happy to do this providing you supply and cover any costs involved in making them useable.

There is obviously a huge amount of time and effort involved in building these cars, putting a price on this process is difficult. One car may take 130 hours in the body shop and the next might only take 85 hours. However we have done this with our price guide over the next few pages.

Build times may vary but typically we supply your Built to Order RS within 12 months. Payment is staged throughout the build at the end of which you collect your car and drive away! A comprehensive photographic record of the build is kept and a Build Folder with CD is supplied with each car. Customer visits are always welcomed.
